Ingredients

For the soutzoukakia

  • 500 g. minced veal
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 slices of yesterdays bread
  • 1 cup. wine
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • olive oil for frying

For the tomato sauce

  • 1kg diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 pinch of sugar
  • 2-3 allspice
  • salt
  • pepper

Directions

  • Soak the bread in the wine.
  • Squeeze it and put in bowl.
  • Add all the ingredients for the soutzoukakia and knead together until smooth.
  • Boil all the sauce ingredients for 15 minutes until it thickens.
  • Wet your hands in wine and mold small meatballs.
  • Fry in olive oil for a few minutes until golden brown.
  • Add them to the sauce and let them boil for 10 minutes over medium heat.
  • You serve traditionally with rice but I prefer handmade pasta.
